Day 10 at Yas Island: Closing Time

I know, I know… this post is a bit late. I had a couple of drinks this night of Day 10 and I stayed out late. Sorry guys. Better late than never though, so here’s the story…

MORNING PAPERS

15 November 2010 – I woke up a bit late in the morning so I had to hurry up to catch the bus that would bring us to the field hospital. I managed to take my breakfast though.

The morning papers were filled with Grand Prix news. There were lots of Sebastian Vettel victory pics on the front and sport pages. I still managed to flip through the pages before the shuttle bus came to pick the group up.

Hey, Manny Pacquiao was in the papers as well! Yeah, let the world know what a true Pinoy fighter is.

CLOSING TIME

Basically, Day 10 was closing time. Our group still came for work in the morning. We were not anymore expecting any patients but a couple still came though. Before lunch time we started packing up. We placed all the supplies and pieces of equipment in their repective boxes again. It was difficult sorting things out especially since we have to put together all stuff that are the same. But it was made easy because everyone was involved. Even some doctors tried to help.

We started in the Operating Rooms where lots of bits and pieces were kept in the drawers. We then moved to the wards and then to ICU. The last part to be packed was ER.

I only know that hospitals should run for 24 hours and never closes. But today, I was seeing a hospital closing down.

We left the field hospital by mid day with all the medical stuff in boxes and bags. A vehicle would come later to pick them up and bring them to a real hospital so they could still be used before they get expired.

Before our service shuttle left to bring us back to the hotel, I looked back to the field hospital for the last time. The tents will be folded down later and I would never see it again. The place will come back to pure sand with nothing on it. Another tent will be built next year for the same event, but the experience will always be different from the past year.

PICTORIALS

We were brought back to the hotel for lunch and we were instructed to come down to the lobby by 2:30pm for some pictorials. We were told to wear the military outfit which was given to us the other day. Check out these pics from the lobby.

We were then fetched by the shuttle bus and were brought to different locations for the group pictorials. We had one shot with the Yas Hotel at the back, two more on the race circuit. Lastly, we were brought to Ferrari World for the last on-location pictorial.

We were then given free entrance tickets to Ferrari World – an amusement park with a Ferrari theme. By google, I found out that this is the world’s largest indoor theme park. There were rides, restaurants and souvenir shops. There was one ride here I really enjoyed – Formula Rossa. They boast it as the world’s fastest roller coaster at 240km/hour. I thought I left my heart on the rails, but yeah, it was super-duper fun! You have to try it once in your life! More stories about Ferrari World on my next posts.

Later, my friends and I returned back to the hotel to change our clothes quickly and have dinner. That was my last dinner in Asymetri so I tried to put on my plate little bits of everything that they have. Well, my plate ended up so full but I really enjoyed the food.

We then decided to have a couple of drinks by the pool side. I retired to bed early in the morning. And so, I could not manage to blog for you guys coz I basically crashed on bed. Hence, this late posting. Churi po!
