The Cracked Pot

Sunday inspirational story.

*******************************

The journey begins one April morning. An elderly chinese woman who has two large pots, which she carries with a pole balanced across her neck.

One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water. At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

notice how the cracked pot leaks water ...

For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.

After 2 years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream. ‘I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house.’ The old woman smiled, ‘Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot’s side?

That’s because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them.’ ‘For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table.’ Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house.’

*******************************

EACH OF US HAS OUR OWN UNIQUE FLAW…
BUT IT’S THE CRACKS AND FLAWS WE EACH HAVE THAT MAKE OUR LIVES TOGETHER SO VERY
INTERESTING AND REWARDING. YOU’VE JUST GOT TO TAKE EACH PERSON FOR WHAT THEY ARE AND LOOK FOR THE GOOD IN THEM.
WE’RE ALL CRACKED POTS. BUT IF WE WILL ALLOW HIM, THE LORD WILL USE US, IN SPITE OF OUR FLAWS, TO GRACE HIS FATHER’S TABLE IN SOME WAY. NOTHING GOES TO WASTE IN HIM.
SO, AS WE SEEK WAYS TO MINISTER, AND AS GOD CALLS YOU TO DO THE JOB HE HAS APPOINTED FOR YOU, DON’T BE AFRAID OF YOUR FLAWS. ACKNOWLEDGE THEM, AND ALLOW HIM TO USE THEM, SO YOU TOO CAN HELP ADD BEAUTY ALONG THE PATHWAYS HE HAS CHOSEN FOR YOU.

TO ALL MY FRIENDS, HAVE A GREAT DAY AND REMEMBER TO SMELL THE FLOWERS, ON YOUR SIDE OF THE PATH. GOD BLESS US ALL!

Feel free to copy-paste, SHENGKAY! I just copied it as well!
Sometimes we just need to be reminded that we are not perfect, but despite that, we can still be a person whose life can inspire many 🙂

It’s so inspiring. A lot of times I catch myself unconsciously comparing myself with others. Some of my classmates are really well-off. Minsan, sabi ko pa sa sarili ko, “buti pa sila, nakakabili ng mga gusto nila. Eh kami, minsan lang yung reward sa sarili. Lahat kailangan pa tipirin.”

I was looking at a classmate who seems to have everything: beauty, brains, and wealth, when a friend asked my why I was looking at her all the time. I told him how I feel so inferior when she’s around, and that’s when he said, “you can make people smile while she makes people feel sad. Mas maganda yun diba?” Then I realized, both of us are blessed in different ways. It’s like the cracked pot in this story. Sana I made flowers and people bloom around me as well.
