Weekly Photo Challenge: UNUSUAL

This was a view from the window of a hotel where I stayed last November. I zoomed my camera to find out what this coin-looking figure was. It was actually a building! Unusual shape for a very tall structure, isn’t it?

FOOTNOTE (23 March 2012): Finally, I found the name of this odd-looking structure. It’s an offfice building called HQ. The HQ Building was voted in 2008 as ‘Best Futuristic Design’ by the Building Exchange Conference, and is a striking addition to the Abu Dhabi skyline. The building is the world’s first circular skyscraper.

And I even found a video…

Very unusual building indeed. Love the shape. Glad you captured it and shared it with us.

That building would have me second guessing what it was too. What city is it in, out of curiosity?

I couldn’t believe my eyes too. Who would thought of creating a very tall building that’s shaped like this? A lot of planning and measuring :) Thanks for the visit :)

    Beautiful entry my friend :)

That is indeed a very unusual building! You got a great photo of it from your room, and I wouldn’t have known for sure it was a building either. It looks more like an art sculpture, very eye-catching. I enjoyed the video and learning about it, thanks for posting the information on it!

That is some. “wow” building. Amazing architectural brilliance. Beautiful capture. Thank you.

Amazing! I can’t understand how they would think of being able to build something that shape!

I can’t understand that too. I feel some space is wasted with a round architecture, rather than the usual rectangular ones. I guess they just want to impress. Many buildings here in the UAE were built to impress. Thanks for visiting :)

They want to impress, yes, but they have money for it :-)

Wow another stunning building. Architecture sure is booming in Asia huh?!
Haha it looks like a giant dropped a coin in the middle of the city XD
